Description

2026 1 oz Niue Czech Lion Gold Coin (BU)

The Czech Mint introduced its first bullion coin series in 2017 with the release of the Silver Czech Lion. The collection quickly gained attention for its patriotic imagery and limited mintages. Produced by the Czech Mint and issued as legal tender in Niue, a South Pacific island nation that authorizes the series, each release presents a new interpretation of the Czech lion on the reverse. This design highlights one of the most enduring national symbols of the Czech Republic. Today, 2026 1 oz Niue Czech Lion Gold Coins are available.

Coin Highlights:

  • Comes with an individual protective flip!
  • 10th coin in the Niue Czech Lion Series!
  • Unique reverse design for 2026!
  • Limited mintage of only 1,500 coins!
  • Contains 1 troy oz of .9999 pure gold in BU condition.
  • The face value of $50 (NZD) is backed by the Niuean government.
  • On the obverse is a bust of King Charles III.
  • The reverse features a Czech Lion with a forked tail and the Crown of St. Wenceslas.

The history of the Czech lion can be traced to the 12th century, when Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa granted new heraldic arms to King Vladislaus II. These arms featured a silver lion on a red field, representing strength and valor, and were originally depicted with a single tail. According to tradition, a second tail was later added in recognition of the support provided by King Přemysl Otakar I during conflicts with the Saxons. By 1253, the two-tailed silver lion on a red field had been established as the official coat of arms of the Kingdom of Bohemia, remaining a consistent symbol of Czech identity through centuries of political and cultural change.

All 2026 1 oz Niue Czech Lion Gold Coins available here are individually packaged in protective flips and arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The 2026 issue features a new reverse design capturing the Czech Lion and Crown of St. Wenceslas, and represents the 10th year for the series.

On the obverse of the 2026 Niue Czech Lion Gold Coin is a portrait of King Charles III. As a Commonwealth nation, Niue includes the reigning British monarch on its coinage. This left-profile effigy of Charles III was created by Jody Clark, the same engraver responsible for the final portrait of Queen Elizabeth II used on British coins.

The reverse of the 2026 1 oz Czech Lion Gold Coin features a powerful Czech lion with its distinctive forked tail, accompanied by the Crown of St. Wenceslas. The Crown of Saint Wenceslas was created in 1346 by Charles IV, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor, for his coronation. He dedicated the crown to St. Wenceslas, the nation’s patron saint, and established it as the official crown to be used in the coronation of future Bohemian rulers.
